I am heading back to Connecticut for the week between spring and summer semesters. So I decided to head north to see my nephew Zack who is living in Montreal. My parents and brother decided to join me too. We booked a great Airbnb in the Plateau Mt Royal section of Montreal. I had a red eye and arrived at 8ish in the morning. They picked me up at the airport and we drove straight to Montreal, arriving around 1. Zack has a great apartment near the Atwater markets.
After checking out the market we went for lunch at Green Spot Diner, to try some local favorites like smoke meat sandwiches and poutin. After we went for a drink in Zack's apartment.
We checked into the apartment which was on St. Hubert street, just around the corner from Au Pied de Cochon. Unfortunately, we couldn't get reservations for there. After a brief nap, Zack and DJ came by our apartments and we walked to St. Laurent Blvd. I loved the neighborhoods we went through. Very hip, active and full of great energy. We were concerned with all of the walking for Mom and Dad but they were troopers! On St. Laurent there was a street fair and it was closed off to traffic. Zack took us to a Portuguese restaurant called Jano's. Mom, Dad, and I walked back to the apartment after dinner while DJ & Zack were going out to watch some sports. I was running on a handful of hours of sleep from the red eye so I was glad to crash early.
The next morning, Dad and I went to St. Viateur Bagel on Mount Royal Ave. After we went for a wall in La Fontaine Park.
Around 10 we picked up Zack and DJ and went to the 11 o'clock mass at St. Joseph Oratory. It was an impressive church, the largest in Canada. The mass was in French so it was lost on me for the most part, but it was also the Boy's Choir mass which was nice.
On the way down from Mt Royal we stopped at a viewpoint. We headed toward Dieu de Ciel but it wasn't open so we decided on Siboire.
Zack had a secret planned for his dad for his birthday later that afternoon, so we had some time to kill. We checked out another market, Jean Talon. when it was time, we head toward Rage, to throw some axes. It was a lot of fun, but an hour was enough time to get our rage out.
